My husband, two boys, our dog, Rocco and I are about half-way through a roadtrip in our Airstream. California to Wisconsin via the meandering route. Travel has always been imporant for me, and when I had kids, I knew I wanted to instill in my boys that passion for exploring new places. I believe there is no better way to learn about the world, about cultures, art, history, and about yourself. I'll be writing a more extensive post about this trip, but right now, I need to go have some awesome adventures with my boys. For now, I will leave you with some photos of our trip this far, and links to our past posts about global education and traveling...
Written by contributing blogger, Christine Martin.A few posts on CID deal with how kids literally get a global education while traveling with parents. While it's not always easy, many families value the benefit of experiencing new places together. A recent guest post on Seek Your Course features Amy Bowers who testifies to the cool things that happened when she, her husband and three kids went to Paris on a month long vacation. She shares: I have a serious case of wanderlust and feel like cultivating a traveler’s mind in children is an essential aspect of their education. Written by contributing blogger, Christine Martin.Going on a family vacation can be a great experience. Here are three things that can enhance a trip with kids.1. BEFORE THE TRIP: Finding the right suitcase for toddlers or little ones is not easy. Check out Fodor's top 3 recommendations for easy and helpful luggage.2. DURING THE TRIP: Encourage reflection and creativity during your journey. The Explorer's Journal is a great space for kids to draw or write their impressions of a place or experience. This makes for a memorable keepsake.3. AFTER THE TRIP: Extend your child's global knowledge with a world map where destinations can be highlighted with fun stickers. This is a stylish decor item in a kid's room too.

Whether taking advantage of vacation time, or extending their travel plans, it is wonderful to see kids take in experiences beyond the familiar. They're wide-eyed and inquisitive, and you just know they make all sorts of unforgettable connections. Not too long ago, I met a family of four where a four-year-old and a six-year-old had been with their parents on a Southeast Asia tour for the last five months. The older daughter was lucky enough to be in a school that made provisions for her absence without taking away from her learning moments. Some parents have...
{thoughts from a travel journal} Contributing support to organizations like Melel Xojobal in Chiapas, Mexico is one of the things CID and FWM treasures most. The opportunity to see first-hand how our donations help is a great privilege. Last week's thoughts shared details about Rebecca's visit to the organization. Part of her journey was sharing it with her two sons. She writes her observations as a mom here. I brought my children, ages nine and six, on our trip to San Cristobal for two reasons. First, I think it is very important for them to understand the work that their mom does. I need for them to grow up believing that giving, either big or small, is second nature to...
